Für ihre überragende Biathlon-Saison erhält Franziska Preuß Lob aus Österreich. Christoph Sumann äußert sich im Gespräch mit SPORT1 auch zu ihren Olympia-Chancen.
Franziska Preuß zählt nicht nur zu den besten, sondern auch beliebtesten Biathletinnen der Welt – auch unter den Sportlern und Verantwortlichen. So hagelte es Gratulationen für die 31-Jährige nach ihrem Gesamtweltcup-Erfolg.
Im Gespräch mit SPORT1 schließt sich auch Christoph Sumann, Chef des österreichischen Biathlonteams, den Glückwünschen an: „Ich kenne die Franzi schon ewig. Ich habe mich extrem gefreut für sie, weil sie immer schon das Potenzial hatte, aber es nie zu hundertprozentig abrufen konnte.“

Die 31-Jährige hat in ihrer Karriere schon mit vielen Rückschlägen zu kämpfen gehabt. Häufig musste sie aufgrund von Infekten während einer Saison aussetzen. 2021 hatte sie sich bei einem Treppensturz kurz vor dem Weltcup in Annecy-Le Grand Bornand am Fuß verletzt, was zu einer erneuten Pause führte.
Preuß: „Muss unheimliche Genugtuung sein“
In dieser Saison klappte es endlich auch mit der Gesundheit – und schon war Preuß nicht mehr zu stoppen.
„Das muss eine unheimliche Genugtuung sein und das hat sie einfach definitiv verdient. Es war keiner besser als sie heuer (in diesem Jahr)“, sagte Sumann.
Auf die Frage, ob ein großer Erfolg für Preuß auch bei Olympia möglich ist, entgegnete der Ex-Biathlet: „Absolut! Wenn sie nur annähernd so eine Saison hinbringt, wie die vergangene. Auch mit dem Wissen, dass sie eine ganze Saison problemlos überstehen kann, mit der Routine und mit der Klasse, die sie hat – wieso nicht?“

The 31-year-old has had to struggle with many setbacks in her career. She often had to take breaks during a season due to infections. In 2021, she injured her foot in a fall down the stairs shortly before the World Cup in Annecy-Le Grand Bornand, which led to another break.
Preuß: “Must be an incredible satisfaction”
This season, her health finally worked out – and Preuß was unstoppable.
“That must be an incredible satisfaction and she definitely deserves it. Nobody was better than her this year,” said Sumann.
When asked whether a major success is also possible for Preuß at the Olympics, the former biathlete replied: “Absolutely! If she manages to have a season that is even close to the past one. Also with the knowledge that she can survive an entire season without any problems, with the routine and with the class that she has – why not?”
