Kevin Durant extends his contract with the Houston Rockets. If the two-time NBA champion fulfills his contract, he will become the highest-paid basketball player of all time.
Basketball superstar Kevin Durant has agreed to a contract extension with the Houston Rockets – propelling him into new financial spheres in the NBA!
According to ESPN , the 37-year-old signed for two additional years following the conclusion of the season starting Wednesday. From 2026 to 2028, Durant will receive a total of 90 million US dollars.

Durant Could Surpass LeBron
If the two-time NBA champion fulfills his contract, he would become the highest-paid basketball player of all time with career earnings of 598.2 million US dollars.
This would allow “KD” to overtake LeBron James (583.9 million US dollars), whose future with the Los Angeles Lakers beyond 2026 remains completely uncertain. Recently, there has been ongoing discussion about the 40-year-old’s retirement.
Player option for 2027
With his new contract, Durant forgoes an additional 30 million US dollars to provide his franchise with financial flexibility for roster planning.
In return, he receives a player option for the final contract year and could thus leave Houston in 2027.
Before the start of the 80th NBA season, Durant moved from the Phoenix Suns to Houston. On Wednesday night (1:30 AM), the Rockets will face Isaiah Hartenstein and champions Oklahoma City Thunder for the season opener.
