Sampdoria Genoa at the low point: descent into series C

CESC Fàbregas was most recently traded in the Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig as a hot coach - but the Spaniard has probably decided differently.

Sampdoria Genoa reaches a historic low point. To date, the traditional Italian club has always played in the first two leagues.

Traditional club at the low point: Sampdoria Genoa has relegated to the third Italian football league. On Tuesday, the champion from 1991 did not get over a 0-0 at Juve Stabia on a dramatic last matchday in series B and has to go to series C for the first time. Since 1946 the club had always played in the first two leagues.

All direct competitors of the “BluCerchiati” won their games on the final 38th matchday, so that 41 points and 18th place were not enough for relegation. Sampdoria was missing one point on the relegation places, two on direct relegation.

Sampdoria had relegated to series B in series A after eleven seasons in a row in a row. A year ago, the traditional club was in the playoffs for the climb.

Help from ex-national coach fizzles out

Now the team unexpectedly relegated together with Cosenza and Cittadella, the two Serie A relegations Frosinone and Salernitana play out the fourth relegation in the Playouts.

In the relegation battle, even the former Italian national coach Roberto Mancini Sampdoria’s coaching duo Attilio Lombardo and Alberico Evani had morally supported.

Mancini is still revered by Sampdoria’s followers almost 30 years after his farewell to the Ligurier as a professional. He is still Genoa’s record goal scorer and led the Samp to the only championship to date in 1991. So far he has not coached the traditional club.
