In her grand finale, Maier beats the World Cup leading and world champion Fanny Smith from Switzerland.
The German SkiRossians have experienced a change of feelings in their penultimate World Cup races of this winter. Daniela Maier, who had brought bronze at the World Cup last week, triumphed in Idre Fjäll on Saturday, but the men went away empty -handed. Florian Wilmsmann in particular, who was the overall leader to Sweden, had to cope with a bitter setback.
The 29-year-old could crown the winter with the first victory for the German Ski Association (DSV) in the overall World Cup, but on Saturday he failed in the round of 16. The Canadian Reece Wowden grabbed first place through his triumph. Simone Deromedis from Italy is now in front of Wilmsmann in the overall classification.
The DSV athletes now separate 72 points from Howden. On Sunday (8:30 a.m.) he is facing a mammoth task in the last race of the season to secure the overall victory. A maximum of 100 points are to be won. Tobias Müller, who was still sensational at the World Cup, became fifth this time.
In her grand finale, Maier hit the World Cup leading and world champion Fanny Smith from Switzerland and jumped in third place. The second German Luisa Klapprott had already failed in the quarter -finals. The women start on Sunday from 8.54 a.m.
