Skicross World Cup: Florian Wilmsmann chases Medal – question marks in the weather

Florian Wilmsmann misses the podium

Florian Wilmsmann is one of the gold favorites at the SkiRoss World Cup. So far, he has gained little positive experiences on the route.

Despite his great destinations, the German ski boss Florian Wilmsmann starts at the World Cup in St. Moritz. “The nervousness has subsided a bit since the last World Cup,” said the 29-year-old. Two years ago he won silver in Georgia, now the overall World Cup fashion on gold. “A medal is the goal again,” said Wilmsmann.

When he is fighting for the medals, it is still open in view of the worse weather conditions. “The locals say that it can snow 30, 40 centimeters, which is rather bad for our sport,” said Heli Herdt, sports director for Skicross and Freeski at the German Ski Association (DSV). The competitions scheduled for the weekend is currently being negotiated.

Wilmsmann wanted to overturn at the World Championships in Freestyle, Freeski and Skicross (until March 30) “by no means” that this had already proven to be a wrong approach in the course of the season and had already “fallen on his feet, then small mistakes happen. Ingsesamt he looks back on three wins and three other podium places this season – it is the best winter of his career.

Little positive experiences on the World Cup route

So far, he has not gained too positive experiences on the World Cup route. “This is not an easy course. Last year in the World Cup it wasn’t that well,” said TSV Hartpenning’s athlete about his eleventh place in the previous year. Now “a lot will decide the day form and how well you meet the course”.

The World Cup also serves as a location for the Olympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (February 6th to 22nd, 2026) in just under eleven months. Due to the focus on the remaining season, not too many thoughts about the Olympics have come up. But in summer he wanted to go to Italy, “that you just know a bit of it, that sees where what is, that all of this is a bit more familiar”.
