Norman Foster gestaltet das neue Mailänder Stadion
Der britische Star-Architekt Norman Foster wird das neue Heimstadion der Mailänder Fußballvereine Inter Mailand und AC Mailand entwerfen. Der 90-Jährige und sein Architekturstudio behaupteten sich laut Gazzetta dello Sport gegen einige der bekanntesten Architekten der Welt. Foster hat unter anderem den Berliner Reichstag und das 2007 eingeweihte neue Wembley-Stadion restauriert.
Sein Projekt für die neue millionenschwere Arena soll der Gemeinde Mailand Mitte 2026 vorgestellt werden. Das neue Stadion soll in der Ortschaft San Donato stehen, die etwa zehn Kilometer südöstlich von Mailand liegt.
Bislang teilen sich die Rossoneri das Giuseppe-Meazza-Stadion mit ihrem Stadtrivalen Inter. Das berühmte San Siro bedarf allerdings dringend einer Sanierung. Das legendäre Stadion in Mailand könne nicht zu erschwinglichen Preisen renoviert werden, teilte Bürgermeister Giuseppe Sala kürzlich mit.
Pläne für einen Abriss des Meazza-Stadions, das wegen seiner Lage im gleichnamigen Stadtteil vor allem als “San Siro” bekannt ist, waren zuletzt von der Stadt aufgrund des “kulturellen Interesses” abgelehnt worden. Zum 100. Geburtstag im Jahr 2026 ist in der Arena die Eröffnungszeremonie der Olympischen Winterspiele in Mailand und Cortina geplant.
Norman Foster to design new Milan stadium
British star architect Norman Foster will design the new home stadium for the Milanese football clubs Inter Milan and AC Milan. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 90-year-old and his architecture studio prevailed against some of the world’s most famous architects. Foster has, among other things, restored the Berlin Reichstag and the new Wembley Stadium, which was inaugurated in 2007.
His project for the new multi-million dollar arena is scheduled to be presented to the municipality of Milan in mid-2026. The new stadium is to be built in the town of San Donato, which is about ten kilometers southeast of Milan.
So far, the Rossoneri share the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium with their city rivals Inter. However, the famous San Siro is in urgent need of renovation. The legendary stadium in Milan cannot be renovated at affordable prices, Mayor Giuseppe Sala recently announced.
Plans for the demolition of the Meazza Stadium, which is known mainly as “San Siro” because of its location in the district of the same name, were recently rejected by the city due to “cultural interest”. For its 100th birthday in 2026, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina is planned in the arena.
