Snoop Dogg has joined Welsh football club Swansea City as a co-owner and investor. The rapper is not the first prominent name there.
Rap superstar Snoop Dogg has joined Welsh football club Swansea City as a co-owner and investor. On Thursday evening, the club from the Championship, the second English league, announced the next prominent collaboration. In April, the arrival of Croatian football icon Luka Modric (AC Milan) at the “Swans” had already been announced.
“The history of the club and the region really appealed to me. This is a proud city and a proud working-class club,” said Snoop Dogg. The 53-year-old had already played a role in Swansea’s jersey presentation on Saturday.
Club wants to increase awareness
The rapper is “passionate about this project and helps us to increase the club’s profile with as wide an audience as possible,” said Tom Gorringe, CEO of Swansea City.
According to the statement, the ownership group also hopes “that his commitment will help us to send as competitive a team as possible onto the field.” The owners described the entry as “The Next Episode” – in reference to one of the rapper’s biggest hits.
