The concern for Laura Dahlmeier is great. On Monday, the former biathlete had an accident while mountaineering in Pakistan. The 31-year-old was “at least severely injured” by a rockfall on Laila Peak, her management announced. She has not yet been found because the rescue is difficult.
Due to the remoteness of the area, a rescue helicopter was only able to reach the accident site on the morning of July 29, one day after the accident. An international mountain rescue team has since been coordinating the recovery on the 6,069-meter-high Laila Peak. Climbing star Thomas Huber is also involved in the rescue operation, Bild reported.
The 58-year-old and his brother Alexander (56) made a name for themselves in the mountaineering scene as the “Huberbuam.” Both became known for spectacular first ascents in the Alps and the Karakoram.
The latter is the mountain range in which Dahlmeier had the accident. Huber was on an expedition nearby at the time of the rockfall.
Climbing Star Huber Knows Dahlmeier Well
Huber also wrote the foreword to Dahlmeier’s 2023 book “Wenn ich was mach, mach ich’s gscheid”.
The subtitle is: “About challenges, the freedom in the mountains and why it is important to do your thing.”
The two experienced climbers repeatedly completed tours together in the high mountains – this time, however, they were traveling separately.
Search Aborted on Tuesday – Continuation to Follow
The search by Huber and Co. has not yet been successful.
In the evening, it was temporarily called off due to the darkness. The rescue is scheduled to continue on Wednesday.
Dahlmeier’s rope partner is now descending and safe with other mountaineers. According to the report, Huber was also involved in this.
