FC Bayern Basketball is facing a significant loss! According to Basketnews.com, Bayern’s key player Nick Weiler-Babb is on the verge of transferring to Turkish top club Anadolu Efes.

The US-born player, who has been playing for the German national team since 2022, is expected to sign a contract in Istanbul until 2028. Since Weiler-Babb is still under contract in Munich until 2026, the Munich team is set to receive a transfer fee – reportedly as high as 750,000 euros.

Eurohoops also reports on an imminent departure of the guard from Munich, who had moved to FCBB from MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in 2020.

EuroLeague Award for Weiler-Babb

With Bayern, the 29-year-old celebrated winning the German Championship last year, and this season, Bayern and Weiler-Babb are in the BBL Finals against ratiopharm Ulm.

The German national player was named Defender of the Year in both the BBL and the EuroLeague.

Weiler-Babb has also developed into a real offensive weapon. In the EuroLeague, he averaged 8.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.5 steals, while also converting a strong 43.5 percent of his three-pointers.

Bayern face further departures

In addition to Anadolu Efes, AS Monaco and Olympiacos Piraeus were also rumored as possible interested parties, but the EuroLeague champion from 2021 and 2022 apparently got the nod.

For Bayern, this might not be the last high-profile departure, as top scorer Carsen Edwards and Big Man Devin Booker are also considered candidates for a transfer.

With Germany, Weiler-Babb won the bronze medal at the home European Championship in 2022. In 2023, he missed the German World Cup triumph due to injury. Last year, the guard reached the Olympic semi-finals with the DBB.
