The Orlando Magic are attacking the trade market in the NBA. Reinforcements are coming for the Wagner brothers.
The Orlando Magic, featuring brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner, are reportedly getting major reinforcement. According to insider Shams Charania from ESPN, the NBA franchise has acquired Desmond Bane via trade from the Memphis Grizzlies, but had to “pay” a lot of capital in return.
For the 26-year-old, the Magic are giving up not only Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cole Anthony, but also a total of four unprotected first-round picks.
Desmond Bane is moving to the Orlando Magic
Orlando is sending Memphis the 16th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Phoenix’s first-round pick in 2026, and the unprotected first-round picks in 2028 and 2030. In addition, there is a pick swap between Orlando and the Grizzlies.
Missing Piece of the Magic?
In Bane, the team around the star duo of Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero is getting their third high-caliber player. Last season, the shooting guard averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. Bane helps the Magic from beyond the three-point line.
Over his career, he has hit a strong 41 percent of his three-pointers – and no team had a worse three-point percentage than Orlando last season (31.8 percent).
“For Orlando, it’s a big step to compete in the Eastern Conference,” Charania wrote on X, calling the trade a “blockbuster deal.”
