Also because of an evil mistake shortly before the end, Michael van Gerwen surprisingly leaves the UK Open. The Dutch catches a miserable day on the doubles.
This is the first big surprise at the UK Open! Michael van Gerwen, number three of the world, fails in round 5 with 8:10 on the Welsh Robert Owen.
In particular, his lousy start – MVG missed the first 15 (!) Darts to doubles (a total of 26, double quota of 23.5 percent) – sealed this from the Dutch. Curious: At 8: 9, Van Gerwen had the chance of equalization, but overturned the 100 points.
Michael van Gerwen has to cut the sails early
After hit the Triple 20 and the simple 20, he targeted the double 10 to decide the leg for himself. But instead of meeting the field, his arrow slipped and landed in the neighboring double 15.
Owen used the mistake ice cold and won with the fifth match dart. In the round of 16, he now meets James Wade.
