Victory in the penalty shootout: U23 wins international round

The DFB juniors prevail against Norway and have to prove strong nerves.

The footballers of the German U23 national team crowned their comeback season with a win in the final of the international international round. The team of trainer Kathrin Peter won 6: 5 in the penalty of the Spanish in Murcia in Spanish, and after a regular season it was 0-0.

The selection of the German Football Association (DFB) urged the winning goal in the final phase, but it no longer succeeded after 90 minutes of stoppage time. In the subsequent penalty shootout, the DFB juniors demonstrated the stronger nerves: Only goalkeeper Laura Dick from TSG Hoffenheim parried the shot of Norway’s Emilie Ă–steras, Katharina Piljic from Bayer Leverkusen then scored the golden goal for Germany as the sixth shooter.

Only last October the U23 had been launched again after more than twelve years. “The focus is clearly on the individual promotion and development of the players with the aim that as many players as possible make the leap into the women’s national team promptly,” Peter had explained when founding again.
