Winter sports jewel announces decision: “I’m going to be biathletes now!”

The Norwegian Einar Hedegart was a promise both in the cross -country skiing run and in biathlon. Now that he has now left overall World Cup winner Laegreid at the Biathlon State Championships, he made his career decision.

The biathlon nation Norway has won a further promise: the young Einar hedegart, long torn between the ski hunters and the cross-country skiers, decided to have a career in the biathlon.

“I will now be biathlete,” announced the 23-year-old after his mass start at the Norwegian championships in Stklestad in an interview with the TV station NRK : “Yesterday I was already retired for a few hours, but now I was back. I had decided halfway, but this morning I did not feel that I did not have the motivation if I just did a long run.”

Hedegart had proven to be a promising talent in both sports in recent years: at the biathlon, he won twice silver and gold with the season at the 2023 Junior World Cup and then got the first World Cup points when the season was finished.

Hedegart was most recently in use instead in the cross -country skiing run and reached a top level: over 10 kilometers of freestyle he took second place and crossed the finish line in front of superstar Johannes Hösflot Kläbo. In Stklestad he now showed what he can do as a biathlete: Despite two shooting errors, he hung the top -class competition with his mileage – among other things, overall World Cup winner Sturla Holm Laegreid had a look (5th place with three shooting errors).

The three-time relay world champion Vetle Sjästad Christiansen (7th place) was frustrated: “It is terrible somewhere that a cross-country skier comes here and beats us in the biathlon. I have to say: I hate that”.

The fact that Hedegart is now “overflowing” is now also causing frohlocken in the scene. “I’m so happy,” cheered ex-biathlete Ola Lunde, who is now an expert at NRK: “I am very happy that he made this choice. What he showed here shows his enormous performance.”
