The Czech national football team has parted ways with coach Ivan Hasek after the defeat against the Faroe Islands.
The association confirmed the dismissal on Wednesday – three days after the painful defeat, which dealt a severe blow to the Czech team on their path to the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Association head David Trunda said that a new coach might come from abroad. In the final World Cup qualifier in mid-November against Gibraltar, an interim coach could take over the selection.
The Czech Republic currently sits in second place in Qualification Group L, which would qualify them for the playoffs to be held in March.
However, the lead over the third-placed Faroe Islands, which will face group leaders Croatia in November, is only one point. The Czechs last participated in a World Cup at the 2006 tournament in Germany.
