Zimbabwe: End for National Coach
The German has to leave again after a miserable World Cup qualification.

Adventure ends: Michael Nees is no longer the coach of Zimbabwe’s national football team. As the national association ZIFA announced on Wednesday, the contract of the 58-year-old has been terminated. Nees had remained winless in ten games with his team in the Africa qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, thus clearly missing out on participation in the XXL tournament.
“The association takes this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr. Nees for his efforts and contribution to Zimbabwean football during his tenure,” stated an announcement: “His dedication to the sport and his commitment to the national structures are greatly appreciated.”
Since taking office in July 2024, Nees had won only two of 16 matches with Zimbabwe. Previously, the German coach had already managed the Seychelles and Rwanda.
