More and more details are emerging about the mountain accident that killed Laura Dahlmeier. Now her rope partner, Marina Krauss, has spoken out about the tragedy and described the course of the accident.
At an improvised press conference on Thursday, she reported: “We knew that we definitely had the technical skills and that, according to the weather forecast – if we start at night – everything is feasible.”

Krauss explained that the two mountaineers had decided to turn back before reaching the summit. “If we had been half an hour earlier, we would have come down safely,” said Dahlmeier’s rope partner.
Krauss described: “We were descending at the third rappel station. I was already down at the next rappel station, preparing it. Laura followed.”
“From that moment on, she didn’t move anymore”
The rope partner then reported on the mountain accident: “Then the rockfall started. I watched as Laura was hit by a huge rock and how she was then thrown against the wall.”
She continued: “From that moment on, she didn’t move anymore and didn’t give any signs of life. I called her, but there was no reaction. I saw that she had been hit on the head. I knew that she only had a chance if help came immediately. It was also impossible for me to get there safely and, of course, the only way to help her was to call the helicopter.”
