Alcohol in a professional darts? World champion makes clear hint

Numerous celebrities from the sports and television world pokered on Saturday with darts fans for a good cause. The charity event was so well received.

Adrian Lewis has clear words on the subject of alcohol in professional darts. He also talks about his comeback.

For many decades, darts was considered a pub sport. Alcohol consumption by spectators and players was perfectly normal. In the meantime, times have changed for the professionals – or have they? Now Adrian Lewis makes people sit up and take notice.

He revealed in an interview with the Escapist Magazine that many stars go on stage drunk. The 40-year-old therefore wants changes.

“I think it’s best if they don’t drink, if they can block that out. That’s what I hope for the future,” said the two-time PDC world champion, especially with regard to future generations of professional players.

He only singled out Chris Dobey from his current colleagues. Only the Englishman doesn’t drink before matches. “That is, until he’s finished playing, then he gets drunk,” Lewis added.

He himself withdrew from the PDC tour in April 2023 because he wanted to take care of his sick wife Sarah and his autistic daughter Myla. But now he is planning his return.

“I can’t wait to get back to the oche. I’m going to be taking part in a doubles tournament with Steve Beaton, the International Pairs. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m just going to go and enjoy it,” said Lewis.

The Englishman doesn’t have high expectations in the meantime. “Whatever happens, happens. That’s what I’m all about. I just want to have fun. In January we’ll see where we are on the way to the Tour Card.” Apparently “Jackpot” is planning to take part in the Q-School in January to get his Tour Card back.
