Ex-BVB star reveals nasty insults from José Mourinho

Mkhitaryan's relationship with coach José Mourinho suffered as a result of his declining performance

Henrikh Mkhitaryan reveals that there was a long period of frost between him and José Mourinho. The two exchanged harsh insults.

José Mourinho brought Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United almost ten years ago. Now the former BVB player revealed that there were often clashes between the two.

After three successful seasons at Borussia Dortmund, Mkhitaryan found the Premier League much more difficult than the Bundesliga. But he suffered not only from his performance decline, but also from his relationship with his coach Mourinho.

“I told him: ‘You’ve been criticizing me for a year and a half, since I came to Manchester United.’ Mourinho then said I was a piece of sh**. I replied that he was a piece of sh**. A huge one,” wrote the 36-year-old in his autobiography ” My Life Always at the Center “.

Years after the incident, the two met again at AS Roma. Suddenly, however, the feud dissolved into thin air. “On the first day, we immediately hugged each other,” Mkhitaryan described the reunion. Today, there is only respect between him and his former coach.

In 2013, Mkhitaryan moved to BVB, where he scored 41 goals in 140 games. Three years later, Mourinho made every effort to bring the Armenian to United – only for him to score just 13 goals there.

After just under 1.5 years, the coach then transferred him to Arsenal for 34 million euros. But Mkhitaryan didn’t improve there either. In 2020, he finally ended up at AS Roma on a free transfer. For three years, the experienced midfielder has been playing more or less successfully at Inter Milan.
