Robert Lewandowski is in his final contract year with FC Barcelona. Continued employment in Catalonia beyond summer 2026 is apparently off the table.
Is Robert Lewandowski’s time at FC Barcelona coming to an end? According to a report from the Spanish daily newspaper Sport, the Polish superstar has no future left in Catalonia.
“The decision has been made: The 37-year-old Polish striker has ended his time in Barcelona. He will no longer be with the team next year,” reports the Barcelona-based newspaper and further states that “necessary steps are being taken” to find a replacement for the long-time striker star from Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern.
Lewandowski not always a starter under Flick
Lewandowski’s contract with FC Barcelona expires in summer 2026. The Pole has lost his regular starting position in the team of head coach Hansi Flick this season, having started in only three of seven league games.
“FC Barcelona’s decision not to extend Robert Lewandowski’s contract is becoming clearer day by day. His age, his performance decline, and the fact that he can no longer pressure opponents as strongly as his teammates speak a clear language,” Sport analyzes the situation surrounding the former Bayern striker.
Even in the Champions League top match against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (1:2), teammate Ferran Torres was preferred in the Catalan attack center and immediately scored against the French top club. Despite his many brief appearances, Lewandowski has contributed four goals in nine competitive matches this season.
The Pole moved to FC Barcelona from FC Bayern for €45 million in summer 2022 after twelve successful years in the Bundesliga, and has scored 105 times in 156 appearances since then. With Barcelona, he won the Spanish championship twice and also celebrated the Copa del Rey triumph last season.
