Former England international Thomas Hitzlsperger expressed shock in an interview about the state of Manchester United.
Things are not going well for Manchester United in the new season either. The Red Devils have disappeared into the mediocrity of the Premier League and currently rank tenth in the table. Things haven’t been going well at Old Trafford for years. For former England international Thomas Hitzlsperger, this is no surprise.
“Such an issue always starts at the top. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as a co-owner, is trying to solve many things with brute force. It won’t get better with Ruben Amorim as coach either, but that’s not surprising because the unrest in this great club is so immense that replacing one person is not enough,” explained the TV expert in the kicker interview.
“ManUnited has again invested a lot this summer, but it is a good example of how you can burn a lot of money if you change direction too often,” Hitzlsperger is certain.
He also can’t make much of the job guarantee for Amorim, which is valid until 2027. “I understand the intention, but when the pressure increases and the football and results don’t improve, they have to react. The club looks very unhappy with what it’s doing. A coach alone won’t solve the problems.”
Things are getting much better for former Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner, who with Crystal Palace is just one point behind the international spots. Glasner is already being considered as a coach for the very big clubs.
“I’m curious about that. From an outsider role, he has proven at every stop that he almost perfectly masters creating surprises. I think highly of him, but the dynamics at a top club are different. I would bet that he ends up at a big club in the summer,” said Hitzlsperger.
Florian Wirtz has already arrived at a big club, having played for FC Liverpool since the summer, but things aren’t going smoothly yet.
The former Stuttgart professional advocates for more patience in this context. “Many people forget that he is now playing abroad for the first time. He is young, you should grant him this adjustment period and not expect that he, of all people, is already leading the team.”
And further: “The club knows what it has in him in the long run and will support him accordingly so that he can soon return to his best form.”
