Following the surprise team VET-Concept Gladiators Trier, the second promoted team has also reached the cup quarterfinals of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). Science City Jena prevailed on Sunday with 80:79 (37:30) at the Rostock Seawolves and followed the still undefeated Trier team in the league into the next round. The Gladiators had already clearly beaten Telekom Baskets Bonn on Friday (107:90).
Lorenz Bank put Jena ahead with nine seconds remaining through a layup, while on the opposing side top scorer TJ Crockett Jr. (23 points) missed the final chance to win with the final buzzer. The best shooter for Jena was center Great Osobor with 15 points. The BBL returnee now needs just one more win to advance to the Top Four tournament.
