Thomas Müller is making waves in the MLS. In addition to his sporting achievements, the Bayern legend is also drawing attention with his new look, which Müller now explains.
Thomas Müller has changed not only sportingly with his move to the Vancouver Whitecaps – visually, the 2014 World Cup winner now makes a new impression and wears a beard.
Müller’s new look is causing discussion, especially on social networks. Now the 36-year-old has revealed how the change came about.

“People are always trying to validate themselves”
“I’ve never had a beard before,” Müller explained in an interview on the BR program Blickpunkt Sport. “Many of my teammates have a beard and maybe that’s part of it. People are always trying to validate themselves.”
But apparently, the distance from his Bavarian homeland, which is about ten flight hours away, also has something to do with his beard.
Müller: Teammate books appointment at the barber
“The whole thing might have also come about a bit from the back-and-forth flying. At some point, I was past the point where it itches and can be easily removed. And then I had a bit more material to work with,” Müller elaborated.
And further: “Then a teammate said, I’m going to the barber on Monday and I’ll make you an appointment now. And when it was freshly done, it didn’t look so bad, so I thought I’d just leave it for now.”
After his contract with FC Bayern expired, Müller moved to Canada in the summer. In his first eight games for the Whitecaps, the veteran scored eight goals and provided four assists. Vancouver finished the MLS regular season in second place in the Western Conference.
