Ski jumping legend is getting closer to his Olympic dream

The new ski jump in Predazzo is causing safety discussions before the 2026 Olympics. Active ski jumpers classify this danger.

Simon Ammann wants to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics – and has now overcome an initial hurdle on the way there.

Simon Ammann has a legendary career in ski jumping behind him, which he would most like to crown with an Olympic participation to conclude it. The 44-year-old Swiss is now one step closer to this dream.

As the Swiss Ski Federation announced, Ammann is in the squad for the season opener. Together with Gregor Deschwanden, Sandro Hauswirth, Juri Kesseli and Felix Trunz, Ammann will compete in the first World Cup in Lillehammer.

Ammann wants to write Olympic history

After the mixed last season, this was not a matter of course. At the beginning of the year, Ammann had lost his place in the World Cup squad and was only used in the second-class Continental Cup.

Nevertheless, he decided against ending his career – and is now back in the squad for the start. If he also makes it to the Olympic Games, the 44-year-old would go down in history. After all, it would be his eighth Winter Games.

So far, only former speed skater Claudia Pechstein and ski jumper Noriaki Kasai have accomplished this feat.
