Florian Wirtz is self-critical after his start to the season, but encourages for the upcoming games.
After the convincing victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League (1:0), Florian Wirtz also believes in an upswing in the league.
The 22-year-old was in the starting eleven against the Madrilenians and was subsequently praised for his performance.
“I just enjoyed playing, especially because I wasn’t sure if I would play. I just take the position that the coach asks of me and always try to do my best,” Wirtz said in an in-house interview with Liverpoolfc.com .
Wirtz: “We are very happy”
Wirtz emphasized that the team was on the pitch with the right mentality and high commitment from the start: “We were good in the duels and showed enough commitment to keep up with Madrid.”
The win against Real Madrid was followed by a 2-0 win against Aston Villa. On Sunday, the Reds will play against Manchester City in the league (from 5.30 pm in the LIVETICKER).
“We are very happy that we have now been able to win twice – and hopefully again at the weekend – in order to go into the international break with a good feeling,” explained Wirtz.

Wirtz thanks the audience
He also emphasized the extraordinary atmosphere in the stadium after the victory against Real: “I have to say that the atmosphere against Madrid was the craziest since I’ve been here.”
He was also optimistic about his connection to his teammates: “I think I already have a good connection with my teammates on the pitch. Of course, the numbers are not there yet, but I just try to do my best in every game – I always do that – and I’m happy that I can create some chances.”
Wirtz expects a difficult but exciting game against Manchester City, which is traditionally known for its ball possession dominance: “Of course I spoke to my teammates and they told me that it will be a tough game.”
