Premier League: Coach announces his own farewell to PK – and goes to Chelsea!

The next FC Chelsea coach is as good as confirmed – he announced his impending move even before the club.

Liam Rosenior himself confirmed his move to FC Chelsea in a press conference. The Racing Strasbourg coach thus announced what had already been foreshadowed in recent days.

“On Saturday, I didn’t know what would happen. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with one of the biggest clubs in the world. Today, it looks good that I will be the next Chelsea coach,” explained the 41-year-old Briton. He has not yet signed a contract.

There are decisions in life “to which you cannot say no.” He will “love Strasbourg his whole life, but I could not refuse this offer at this point in my life.”

New Chelsea Coach Already Worked Under Rooney

He is getting the opportunity to return to his home country. “I miss my children, I have made sacrifices. Nobody can question my commitment and integrity.”

Rosenior will thus succeed Enzo Maresca, who was released on January 1st. For him, Chelsea is by far the biggest club of his career so far.

As a player, the Briton was active in England for clubs such as Fulham and Brighton. As a coach, he first worked in youth development, then became assistant coach under Wayne Rooney at Derby County, before also serving as interim coach there.

This was followed by his first appointment as head coach at Hull City in November 2022, before he joined Strasbourg in the summer of 2024 after his dismissal there. There, he achieved an average of 1.75 points in 63 competitive matches.

Rosenior also explained that he hopes for the understanding of Strasbourg fans: “The reality in football is that there are different club levels. I know the ambitions of this club, which wants to reach a very high level, but currently, Strasbourg is not yet at Chelsea’s level.”
