Prussia after drama: “Biathlon is not interested in anyone in the country”

The German biathlon ace Franziska Preuss gets the overall World Cup victory in a crazy finish. Rivalin Lou JeanMonnot plunges in the final round.

The new overall World Cup winner is looking forward to her well -deserved break – and does not want to talk about biathlon at first.

Franziska Preuss simply longed for her well -deserved break after the emotional drama on the Holmenkollen. “We are going on vacation relatively quickly, biathlon interested in the country,” said the newly baked overall World Cup winner with a laugh at the ARD microphone. The goal of the trip? Thailand! “Winter sports are very far away,” says Preuss: “I am pleased that you are not addressed to it and switch off completely for two weeks.”

The sixth German winner of the big crystal ball said that her head in particular is “through” after the last weeks of the World Cup. In the struggle with the French competitor Lou JeanMonnot around the yellow jersey, it was “exhausting” for Prussia, “that you never lose faith. The Lou gets closer and closer that you do not let it go.”

In the mass start of Oslo, Preuss then conquered the top position lost in the last race of the winter with her fourth win of the season – also because JeanMonnot got down to the final round in the event of an attempted overtaking maneuver. “It couldn’t have been more exciting,” said Preuss, who was only able to cheer after a withdrawn protest from the French team: “It was a difficult situation until it was clarified. I did not do anything to do it, but you don’t really want to win, you want to fight until the finish line.”

But now you could “no longer change”, said the 31-year-old, who had brought JeanMonnot to the highest podium at the award ceremony: “I said to the Lou that you should actually cut the ball in the middle and everyone gets half. But that’s how it is, now on my side.”

Where she wants to set up her trophies for the respective victories in the overall World Cup and in the sprint and mass starting ratings, Preuss did not know before her return trip. “I have to admit that my first ball won in the basement is in the storage room,” said the biathlete: “Let’s see, maybe we will find a nice shelf for the balls in the weight room. But we have enough time for that.”
