After the withdrawal of Ronaldo: CBF President Rodrigues re-elected

Ednaldo Rodrigues remains CBF President

Ronaldo had declared his retreat out of trouble that most of the national associations didn’t even want to speak to him.

Two weeks after the withdrawal of Brazil’s icon Ronaldo, Ednaldo Rodrigues unanimously re-elected as President of the Brazilian Football Association (CBF). As the association announced in an explanation, the 71-year-old received the unrestricted support of the 27 regional associations and the 40 clubs of the two highest leagues. Rodrigues will remain in office until 2030.

The three -time world footballer Ronaldo had previously withdrawn his candidacy for the presidential post with great enthusiasm. In a “first contact with 27 state associations” he “found 23 closed doors”, the world champion from 2002 wrote on Instagram. According to the statutes, the voices of the CBF branches have a higher weight than that of the 40 first and second division clubs, so they can use a president on their own. Rodrigues celebrated his re -election as a “triumph of democracy”.

Most recently, there was an opposite candidate in 1989 in a election of the CBF president.
