Darts superstar Luke Humphries reveals that he needs a break. Negative comments arrange for him to take a drastic step, while world champion Luke Littler uses understanding.
Darts superstar Luke Humphries caused a sensation at the weekend with clear words about his mental state and announced drastic consequences after unsightly reactions.
“I just play too much. I think I need a break. I am emotionless and that is not good for my mental condition,” said number one of the Order of Merit on Saturday at the International Darts Open in Riesa.

After his 6: 1 victory over Dirk van Duijvenbode, Humphries confessed: “I feel emotionless up there. It is strange. I am honest with the fans: My feelings are going in all directions. It is not the case that I don’t want to be here. But it feels like a mandatory task at the moment.”
Negative reactions: Humphries draws consequences
The reactions to the English statements were partly negative on social media. Then Humphries spoke up again on Sunday.
“In view of the comments of the people who did not understand what I meant … it will be the last time that I confess my real feelings to the public. Everything I say or do seems to be good enough for nobody …” wrote the world champion from 2024.
And further: “As long as nobody complains when we give the same answers in interviews like robots and do not express our true feelings. Then everyone will be happy or still find a way to complain.”
Littler agrees with Humphries
In the meantime, the 30-year support received support from Luke Littler. “Yes, I completely agree with him,” said the world champion, according to Sky on Humphries’ announcement, to want to step shorter.
The many trips to the different tournaments are “hard”, emphasized the 18-year-old. “Especially when the players go over to Riesa, for example. They have to take trains, direct flights, connecting flights, and then they are back home.”
Littler, who, unlike Humphries, had not participated in the International Darts Open, added: “I think Luke now knows that he has to balance his schedule. Just like I have to concentrate on the Premier League.”
After a 6: 7 defeat in the semifinals, Humphries left the competition in Germany against the later winner Stephen Bunting.
In addition to the regular tournaments, Darts stars around Littler and Humphries are currently challenged every Thursday in the Premier League.
