Pesic sure: “Euroleague will continue to grow”

“I am sure that the Euroleague will continue to work so that it will continue to grow,” says the Bayern Managing Director.

The NBA has ideas for an expansion to Europe, but Marko Pesic believes in the continued existence of the current conditions. “I am sure that the Euroleague will continue to work in such a way that it will continue to grow,” said the managing director of the German basketball champion Bayern Munich before the last main round game against Fenerbahce Istanbul (77:89) in magenta. “I believe in the Euroleague and will always support them.”

Most recently, the European premier class had referred to the NBA initiation as a “threat” after a board meeting, but Pesic is apparently not worried because of the current developments. “The Euroleague is the best basketball league in the world from the first to the last matchday for the quality of basketball,” says the former German international, “the halls are always full, that’s a seal of quality.” But you shouldn’t rest on it: “Do something have to be done? Always, yes,” said Pesic.

The Euroleague managers had first commented on the NBA plans during the week and signaled “openness to a dialogue”. “Such projects pose the risk of fragmentation and confusion,” said the organizer ECA (Euroleague Commercial Assets). The NBA had announced on March 27 that it would examine the establishment of a league in Europe in partnership with the World Association Fiba. In 2000, the Fiba was split off to found the Euroleague.
