Ski flying in Vikersund in Norweg has been one of the highlights in the World Cup calendar for many years. But the long -term future of the event is uncertain.
The fans have been familiar with the ski flying in Vikersund for many years, and numerous record flights have been there in the past. A RAW-Air event took place again this year-jumping on a tour that is considered a kind of Norwegian four-hill tour. However, it is questionable whether this event will continue in the future.
Because now the organizers raised the alarm and reported “blood -red numbers”. Although the total costs could be reduced, the loss is still enormous: of 3.8 million Norwegian crowns – the equivalent of around 315,000 euros – the organizers spoke. One of the reasons for this is the lack of spectator interest. Just 6000 fans followed the competitions on the “Monsterbakken” this year.

“It is not sustainable”
“We were afraid of red numbers,” said Leif Arne Berget, the head of the organization committee, the Norwegian daily newspaper Dagbladet : “But we have liquidity and have built up equity in the organizational company. So we have resigned ourselves, but it cannot go on. It is not sustainable to make so much loss in the long run.”
One thing is certain: mistakes of the past few years should never be repeated. “We agreed that we are drawing a line under what has happened, because we cannot do anything about it. We have to work closely together in the spring and summer months to find out how to proceed,” said Berget and added that the snow and maintenance of the system in particular had its price.
The jumping in Vikersund, where Stefan Kraft once set up his world record recently broken by Domen Prevc, is still in the World Cup calendar for 2026. According to the recent statements by Berget, it is more than uncertain.
