Emotional statement by Jamie Vardy: The attacker turns to the fans of Leicester City in a video message and announces his farewell.
Only the descent and now also the farewell of a legend: Jamie Vardy announced that he will leave Leicester City at the end of the season.
In an emotional video message about the club channels, the 38-year-old announced that his time in the “Foxes” ends after 13 years.
“I was devastated that this day came, but I knew that he would come at some point,” said the professional, whose contract expires: “It was 13 incredible years in this club, with many successes, some depths, but above all heights. It is now time to stop. I’m destroyed, but I think the time is right.”
Even if the statement sounds almost after the end of the career, Vardy is probably not yet over: According to Daily Mail, he wants to continue playing and is confident that he can still appear at 40. There should be interest from the MLS.
Master hero 2016, relegation 2025
Vardy was one of the heroes at Leicester’s sensational championship in 2016, in the current season the descent from the Premier League is already determined.
The attacker has been playing at City since 2012 and has scored 198 goals in 496 games so far.
Vardy was used 26 times in the national jersey, including at the European Championship 2016 (from the round of 16) and the 2018 World Cup (4th place). He scored seven goals for the Three Lions.
Emotional Vardy words already after descent
“We failed collectively, as a player and as a club,” the 38 -year -old attacker expressed his disappointment. “We just can’t hide and I refuse to act like that.”
Since 2012, “so many heights and successes have been experienced and this season was just miserable and for me personally a total embarrassment”.
The Englishman contributed seven goals this season. So far, however, four victories have only emerged for Leicester.
