The national goalkeeper returns to the square more than eight months after his tendon tear.
The suffering time of national soccer goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen comes to an end. The 33-year-old will be back in the goal of the leaders more than eight months after his patella tendon tear on Saturday (9:00 p.m./DAZN) in the championship game of FC Barcelona at the bottom of the final light Real Valladolid.
“Of course, he will return to the starting eleven tomorrow,” said coach Hansi Flick on Friday and added with a laugh: “Now we can end the press conference, right? That was the most important thing.”
Ter Stegen injured himself on September 22, 2024 in the game at FC Villarreal (5-1). Most recently, he was already on the bench again, but his representative Wojciech Szczesny continued in the goal, whom Barca had brought out of retirement after Ter Stegen’s failure.
“I’m hungry to play soon,” Ter Stegen recently emphasized. The Barca captain added that he was “physically fit like never” and “full of energy”.
His return is also good news for Julian Nagelsmann. The national coach can plan again with its number one for the final Four of the Nations League (June June and 8th) and with a view to the 2026 World Cup.
