FIFA support for Afghan exile soccer players

The World Association calls a refugee team for players from Hindu Kush.

FIFA’s support from Afghanistan can rely on FIFA’s support in the future. According to a decision by the FIFA Council, the World Association wants to form a refugee team with Afghan women who should be able to play international friendly games. The team does not compete for Afghanistan’s National Association, which is dominated by the Taliban regime.

After a one -year pilot phase, FIFA wants to check the effectiveness and sustainability of the project. The expansion of the model to players from other nations in similarly difficult locations should be an option in the long term.

Girls and women in Afghanistan have had hardly any rights to self -realization in Afghanistan since the return of the Taliban and suffer from massive repression. Large parts of the female population have therefore left the country. In this context, FIFA announced the targeted promotion of girls and women in Afghanistan as well as their commitment in crucial points in the country for the interests of footballers.
