Guardiola raves about this German! “Incredible work”

Pep Guardiola is enthusiastic about a German young coach. The coach, which is hardly known so far, causes a sensation with strong numbers and successes.

As is well known, Pep Guardiola does not save with praise. Now the Catalan has raved about an almost unknown German: Oliver Reiss, coach of the U18 by Manchester City.

“I am very proud. Of course I congratulate him for the incredible work. I think that the players are much better than one or two years ago,” enthused the Starcoach about the 42-year-old.

Who is Oliver Reiss?

Since summer, the former coach of various youth teams from Hertha BSC has been training the U18 of the Skyblues – and that with huge success: Reiss’ team has won 26 of his previous 30 competitive games. His team scored a whopping 110 goals and only conceded 25 goals.

Curious: After a draw and a defeat to the start, Reiss brought all of his 26 victories in a row. It was only in the past two game that there was a draw and a defeat again.

Guardiola is enthusiastic about the influence of German on the young talents: “They develop many things necessary to keep up at the highest level. They do an incredible job.”

Certain

Treiss himself admitted to the Manchester Evening News that he had doubts at the beginning of his time in England: “When I came to Manchester City, I thought: Was it the right decision? You were expecting a lot from me.”

Linguistic and cultural hurdles also initially troubled him. But he quickly felt that he would grow in England: “Already in the first games on the sidelines I felt that I was no longer the same.”

Does a German mancity make a master?

A few weeks ago, Reiss and his team secured the title in the Premier League North. Now the grand finale is waiting for the national championship-on Sunday against the South winner Aston Villa, to which the FA Youth Cup was still 1: 3 in the final.

A victory in the final for the championship would mean the fifth national title in the club history for City’s U18 – most recently this was achieved in 2023.

While Reiss and his team are currently heading for a historical success, the professionals are currently growing: Guardiola and Co. did not get over a 0-0 at the bottom of the table Southampton at the weekend – this is currently only enough for fourth place in the Premier League.
