Mohamed has often noticed due to the refusal to participate in action match days against homophobia.
Striker Mostafa Mohamed from the French first division club FC Nantes triggered a scandal before the last game of the season in Ligue 1. The game against the already departed HSC Montpellier is marked by international day against homophobia – and Mohamed refuses to play.
As the club announced on Thursday, the 27-year-old Egyptian is fined. This is to be forwarded to an organization that campaigns against the discrimination against LGBTQ people.
The striker had been associated with Eintracht Frankfurt in winter. According to Foot Mercato, the SGE is said to have considered him as a possible successor for his compatriot Omar Marmoush.
Mohamed justifies decision with religion
Mohamed justified his decision on social media with his religious conviction. “Certain deep -rooted values associated with my origin and my faith make it difficult for me to take part in this initiative,” wrote the Egyptian international on Instagram.
His attitude is “neither a rejection nor a judgment, but an expression of loyalty to what makes me,” continued Mohamed.
Nantes fights against relegation
Mohamed had already left out games that were accompanied by the league with actions against homophobia. In 2023 he refused to use Toulouse because the teams were wearing jerseys with rainbow elements. At that time, his environment had stated that the player had been threatened in advance.
