In the playoffs, Bayern Munich’s trainer wants to see a performance increase in the defending champion.
Coach Gordon Herbert has committed basketball champions Bayern Munich to the playoffs in the Bundesliga. “We have to bring our Euroleague mentality, our Euroleague game to the BBL. We have shown which level we can play at. So far we have not often shown this in the BBL. But it is probably a German saying: a good horse only jumps as high as it has,” said the Canadian before the master round started.
From Saturday (8:00 p.m.) the Munich will meet the Syntainics MBC in the quarter -finals. The BBL main round ended the BBL main top, but Herbert was extremely dissatisfied after the 73:72 against the MHP giant Ludwigsburg at the end of the regular season.
“We spoke to this, especially how we tackled the first quarter. Hopefully we solved it. But the playoffs also create a different feeling. I think they understand that there are no more chances now,” said Herbert.
The Bavarians had played a strong season in the Euroleague, but missed the self -contained goal Final Four. Ultimately, Herbert and Co. were eliminated in the Play-in tournament of the European premier class.
Meanwhile, the Munich team wiggled again and again in the Bundesliga. “It will be very important in the playoffs that you start well so that the opponent doesn’t even get the feeling that he can win,” said world champion Johannes Voigtmann. Bavaria “ran after residues too often in the season, that costs too much energy and you play with fire.”
Herbert continues to miss his top player Carsen Edwards, who fails because of a back injury, but is positive with a view to the playoffs.
“Carsen is treated and does everything that is possible to come back. I would say that the chances 50 to 50 are that he will return. It will be a medical decision. But I believe that it is going in a positive direction,” said the 66-year-old.
