Timo Werner Celebrates The Europa League Title with Tottenham Exuberantly and Causes Irritation with a post. The Former International Player No Longer Plays A Role At His Club. His future is more uncertain than ever.
If you watched Timo Werner in Bilbao late Wednesday evening after Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League triumph, you might have gotten the impression that the former German international had been a main actor in the 1-0 win against Manchester United in the previous 90 minutes.
Werner jumped back and forth, posed with his medal for pictures, and squeezed himself onto the podium in a great mood at the award ceremony. The 29-year-old wasn’t even in the squad – and is now being mocked not only because of his exuberant celebration.
Timo Werner Celebrated The Title in the Europa League with his Teams
The next morning, Werner also posted some pictures of the triumph on Instagram and captioned them with the words: “What a team! Like I said, I came to win titles.”
With that, he was alluding to his arrival at Tottenham at the beginning of 2024, when he announced: “When I went to Chelsea, I said that I wanted to win titles. In the end, we won the Champions League. I don’t think it’s too bad if I say that I want to win titles here too.”
Werner Celebrates Triumph – Fans Mock Him
He has now succeeded in doing so, making him only the sixth player to have won the Champions League and Europa League with different clubs.
But how big his share in Tottenham’s success was is controversial. Thousands of fans are mocking Werner under his Instagram post. “What an incredible performance from you in the final!” or “He acts like he contributed something” can be read there from numerous Tottenham fans.
What bothers many observers? Werner is more or less only on paper in the Spurs squad.
Werner Left Out at Tottenham
The reason for this is probably a falling out with coach Ance Postecoglou.
“His performance was not acceptable. He didn’t bring the level he should have brought by far. If I demand that younger players do a good job, I especially expect that from the experienced players,” the coach raged in December and from then on almost always banished Werner to the stands.
Above all, a lack of attitude is blamed on the super sprinter.
He no longer has a future in London anyway. The loan expires and Werner has to return to RB Leipzig. According to Picture, the Saxons also no longer want the fallen star and would allegedly even give him away without a transfer fee.
Werner Finally Reached the Low Point
Werner has finally reached the low point.
But how could it have come this far in the past few months? After all, a few years ago he was still Germany’s greatest hope for attack and has 24 goals in 57 international matches.
In the summer of 2020, FC Chelsea therefore put 53 million euros on the table. Werner played and won the trophy. Two years later he went back to Leipzig for a transfer fee of 20 million euros.
At first it went well there too. But then Werner was only used as a super joker before he was loaned to Tottenham in January 2024.
Spurs Star Receives No Medal
There, the attacker is experiencing the darkest time of his career so far. This season, Werner has scored a meager goal in 27 games – at the end of October in the League Cup against Manchester City.
Since then, the former international player has disappeared more and more and temporarily disappeared completely from the scene – until he returned as a party giant on Wednesday.
Because Werner also pushed his way to the front at the award ceremony, Spurs legends such as Heung-Min Son ended up empty-handed at the end of the line. Many fans disliked this.
UEFA had too little precious metal and later apologized with a telling note: “To our great displeasure, there were not enough medals available, as more team members took part in the ceremony than initially expected.”
Werder shouldn’t have felt addressed, he preferred to pose happily with his medal for photos.
