The Norwegian Sondre wrestle at the Continental Cup

The Norwegian ski jumper Sondre rings fell heavily in Engelberg in 2023. The 27-year-old has to end his career over a year later.

The Norwegian ski jumper Sondre Ringen has announced his end of his career.

As the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram, he is no longer able to perform at the highest level. “In view of the developments of the past year, however, it is clear that my body will not be able to do top sport for a long time, if at all. Heavy heart, I now hang up my skis.”

Horror crash in Engelberg

In December 2023, rings experienced a horror crash on the ski jump in Engelberg, Switzerland. The then 27-year-old lost control in the air and brutally opened his head in the run at around 113 meters. A concussion, brain hemorrhage, hip bruise and abrasions were the consequences of the fall.

“Since the serious accident, which made me bedridden for a large part of 2024, has passed over a year. My progress is stable and usually go in the right direction,” he wrote, but made it clear that the continuation of his ski jumping career would make no sense. “I can look back on an eventful career that I get and proud of over time.”

Rings was allowed to compete in the World Cup 17 times, his best result was an 18th place on the Holmenkollen in Oslo. In his message, the 28-year-old thanked for the time in the ski jump circus. “I found friends for life through sport. Both Norwegian and foreign. I am proud to have spent my time with this fantastic group.”
