Bergamo exercised the purchase option for the Ivorian international, as Leverkusen announced on Friday.

Odilon Kossounou, who was on loan to Atalanta Bergamo, will not return to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. As Leverkusen announced on Friday evening, Bergamo has exercised the purchase option for the Ivorian international. According to media reports, the Italians are paying around 25 million euros for the central defender.

“Odilon was an important factor in our team during the most successful year in the club’s history. We are pleased that he was able to integrate so well in Bergamo and wish him continued success,” says sporting director Simon Rolfes. Kossounou was part of the Leverkusen team that won the double in the 2023/24 season, and his contract with the Rhinelanders was valid until June 30, 2026.

The 24-year-old made 18 appearances for Atalanta in the past Serie A season, as well as four appearances in the Champions League. With third place in the league, the club from Lombardy qualified for the Champions League again.
