At the beginning of the week, relegated BG Göttingen released head coach Mikko Riipinen, the Swedes continue at the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. The 37-year-old takes over from the club from the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) at the new season and receives a contract until 2027. The previous assistant coach took over the post at the end of March after John Patrick’s withdrawal.
“He has clear ideas, seems very motivated and ambitious. I believe that with him as a new head coach we will preserve our identity, but at the same time establish new and modern content of basketball,” said Alexander Reil, 1st Chairman of the MHP Riesen. The club got “a young but well -experienced coach”.
Göttingen had separated from riipins on Monday, as he wanted to make use of his exit clause after the current season and accept an offer from another club. This club was probably called Ludwigsburg. “The way of communication by Mikko disappointed us because he gave us the impression that he is planning the coming season with us. The basis of trust is no longer available,” said BG managing director Frank Meinershagen about separation.
Riipinen formally begins in Ludwigsburg on July 1, but is to be responsible for the management and personnel planning beforehand.
