Alba Berlin fits in the play-off race

Worries at Pedro Calles

The team of coach Pedro Calles loses 80:84 against the Würzburg Baskets after a weak final phase.

Alba Berlin received a painful defeat in the race for the Play-Offs in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). The team of coach Pedro Calles lost to the Würzburg Baskets after a weak final phase with 80:84 (42:44) and had to let the francs pass in the table. Würzburg is now at 12:11 wins, Alba at 11:12. To move into the play-in tournament, at least tenth place is needed, sixth for a direct jump to the quarter-finals.

The best thrower among the Berliners, who received their first home defeat under Calles and are only 13, was Yanni Wetzell with 19 points. At Würzburg, Jhivvan Jackson (39) towered over. Calles had recently replaced his Spanish compatriot Israel González, and since the change there have been two defeats in a row after two wins. Alba had lost on Friday in the Euroleague with defending champion Panathinaikos Athens (81:91).

The final phase was decisive against Würzburg. Alba initially settled to 80:73 with an 11-0 run (39th minute), but the Franks answered with a 9-0 run. Jackson scored 82:80 eight seconds before the end and provided the final score on the free -wire line.
