Biathlon: Olympic champion withdraws from national team

Biathlete Justine Braisaz-Bouchet is temporarily no longer training with the French national team. Instead, the 29-year-old goes her own way.

In the midst of the hot preparation phase for the coming season, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet has decided to stop training with the French team for the time being. Head coach Cyril Burdet revealed this in an interview with the online portal Nordic Magazine .

“She decided to stay with her family in October,” said Burdet, explaining his athlete’s move. This is nothing new in France’s biathlon team. In the past, the three-time vice world champion Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, who like Braisaz-Bouchet was a mother in the World Cup, kept withdrawing. Braisaz-Bouchet had her first child in February 2023.

Justine Braisaz-Bouchet will temporarily train alone

While Braisaz-Bouchet wants to complete her units in Bessans, the rest of the French team is working in a training camp in Ramsau, Austria. According to the online portal, it is still unclear whether the five-time world champion and Olympic champion will make the journey from her home to Munich to take part in the LOOP ONE Festival on October 19th.

At the beginning of November, the entire women’s team will meet in Bessans to prepare for the final. The last tickets for the World Cup will also be awarded there. The new season finally starts on November 29th in Östersund.
