Franziska Preuss is the winter sports top earner in Germany. What would you bring in a victory in the overall World Cup?
The most successful biathlon season of her career is behind Franziska Preuss. After countless victories and podium places, the 31-year-old ranked one in the overall World Cup before the last World Cup weekend on the Holmenkollen in Oslo.
The Germans were able to earn more than a quarter of a million euros in the current season – and it could be more. But how much is there in the biathlon for World Cup victories, a triumph in the overall World Cup or World Cup gold?
There are three races ahead of Franziska Preuss. In the sprint on Friday, in the persecution on Saturday and in the mass start on Sunday, she has to try to defend her only 20 points ahead of her worst rival – Lou JeanMonnot from France. There are still 270 points to win, 90 for every win.
Biathlon World Cup: Preuss earned the most
The overall World Cup victory would bring in Prussia 40,000 euros, second place still 32,000 euros – all before tax. Incidentally, the World Association IBU loosens 15,000 euros for a normal World Cup victory.
In recent years, the prize money in biathlon has been increased. With a good 260,000 euros, Preuss is currently the top German earner in winter sports and has even earned more than many male ski jumpers.
For comparison: According to statistics, Andreas Wellinger is currently the most successful German, ski jumper Selina Freitag with a good 80,000 euros so far.
Higher prize money in skiing alpine
In the meantime, the ski alpine area is paid much better. Emma Aicher can look forward to 160,000 euros after a successful season with two wins.
At the Alpine World Cup there was 61,000 euros for a gold medal, Preuss received 25,000 euros for their victory in the World Cup tracking in February in Lenzerheide. Thanks to three other medals, the World Cup revenue for the 31-year-old adds up to 55,000 euros.
