A serious incident occurred at the FC Liverpool championship parade. A car hit several people.
Actually, the fans of FC Liverpool wanted to celebrate the English championship title exuberantly on Monday evening. But during the championship parade, a serious incident occurred: A car drove into a crowd of people. It is still unclear how many people were injured. There is also little information about the background of the incident.
The Merseyside police have so far only confirmed that the incident occurred in the city center of Liverpool during the final phase of the parade.
“A male person was arrested”
“We are currently dealing with reports of a traffic accident in Liverpool city center,” said a police spokeswoman. “We were contacted shortly after 6 p.m. today, Monday, May 26, after it was reported that a vehicle had collided with several people on Water Street.”
It continued: “The car stopped at the scene of the accident and a male person was arrested.” Rescue services are already on site providing assistance.
Chaotic scenes in Liverpool
According to a reporter from the BBC, who is at the scene, there were “at least three injured people” who “were taken away.”
The Mirror, meanwhile, relies on eyewitnesses and reports that the driver may have “deliberately” driven into the crowd. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed. Videos are circulating on social media showing chaotic scenes. Many people are running around in fear. Before that, a van can be seen driving into a large group of people and not stopping immediately.
Tens of thousands of fans on the streets
After the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace last Sunday, Liverpool was presented with the trophy for the English championship. On Monday afternoon, fans flocked to the streets for the parade. The party had been planned for weeks after the Reds won the title several games before the end of the season.
Tens of thousands of FC Liverpool supporters were out to celebrate their heroes. These drove through the city in an open bus.
The route stretched for about ten miles (16 kilometers). It was the 20th championship title in the club’s history for the Reds.
