At the penultimate race of the season, Julian Schmid still has to accept a setback in the fight for overall place.
Julian Schmid continued the podium series of the German combiners, but had to take a gap in the fight for third place in the overall World Cup. The team world champion from Oberstdorf came in third on Friday at the penultimate season race in Lahti, Finnish in Finnish after he had run after jumping. For the eighth time in a row, a DSV combinator was on the podium.
With his second win of the season, the Austrian Johannes Lamparter strengthened third place in the overall ranking and lies 22 points ahead of Schmid before the final on Saturday. Lamparter prevailed with a 27.4 second lead over the Finn Ilkka Herola, Schmid was 41.6 seconds behind.
Geiger storms from 29th to fourth place
The designated overall World Cup winner Vinzenz Geiger stormed in fourth place after jumping with a magnificent performance in the trail. “I am really physically in a good mood,” said the Olympic champion in the ARD. In terms of mathematical, Norway’s world champion Jarl Magnus RiiBer could have intercepted him in a purely mathematical manner. Riiber had surprisingly preferred his end of his career and was the last time at the home World Cup in Oslo the last week.
Behind Schmid and Geiger ran in Wendelin Thannheimer (5th), Terrence Weber (6th) and David Mach (10th) three more Germans in the top ten. Johannes Rydzek, who wrote history in Lahti at the 2017 World Cup with four gold history in four races, became twelfth.
The jumping on Friday morning had been canceled due to too violent winds, so the provisional rating (PCR) was used as the basis for cross -country skiing from the previous day. Schmid was located there on Thursday, Geiger had not got out of 29th place and therefore went the cross -country ski run with almost two minutes behind.
Another single race will take place on Saturday as the season end. If you cannot jump again, the entire competition will fail – the PCR result may only be used once.
