Liverpool FC bids farewell to the League Cup. Without Florian Wirtz, they suffered another defeat against Oliver Glasner’s team.

Liverpool FC simply cannot find their form. In the League Cup round of 16, the struggling Reds suffered a clear 0:3 defeat against Crystal Palace.

The visitors, led by former Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner, set the course for victory before halftime: Ismaila Sarr shocked the hosts with a double strike (41st, 45th). Yéremy Pino added another goal for Palace in the 88th minute. For the hosts, youth player Amara Nallo received a red card after a professional foul (79th).

Liverpool coach Arne Slot did without numerous regular players on Wednesday evening. Besides Florian Wirtz, players like Hugo Ekitiké, Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk were not even in the squad. In total, Slot made ten changes to the starting lineup compared to the last league match.

Liverpool: Sixth defeat in seven games

For Liverpool, this was already the sixth defeat in their last seven competitive matches. Only in the 5:1 Champions League victory against Eintracht Frankfurt have the Reds recently impressed.

In the last meeting at the end of September, Palace had already won 2:1 – initiating Liverpool’s current crisis.

Liverpool is now the weakest team in Europe’s top five leagues: No team has lost more matches across all competitions since September 27th.
