Former PDC Tour Card holder Andy Cornwall described Luke Littler as a “show-off” and “ridiculous”. Now the reigning PDC world champion is firing back sharply.
Luke Littler has sharply retaliated against former PDC Tour Card holder Andy Cornwall. “I saw that Andy Cornwall said something about ( Stephen; editor’s note ) Bunting yesterday. Now he’s saying something about me. What an absolute fool he is – and I don’t know him,” Littler wrote on Instagram.
The trigger was an appearance by Cornwall on the “Mission Darts Podcast”. There, the 54-year-old first talked about Bunting and claimed that he knows and appreciates him as a person, but the Englishman would never belong to the world elite because in his opinion he stands incorrectly at the oche. Afterwards, he targeted Littler for his participation in the Junior World Championship.
According to Cornwall, Littler was only seeking more attention. “Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous. It was a bit like: ‘Look at me, look at me, look at me.’ Everything revolves around me. “I didn’t like that at all,” the expert ranted. “Someone should have told him: ‘You’re doing the wrong thing, Luke. You’re taking an opportunity away from someone else.’ You shouldn’t play in youth tournaments anymore when you’re world champion.”
Littler? “He gave the tournament credibility”
Matthew Edgar, co-host of the podcast, however, contradicted Cornwall and emphasized that Littler hadn’t taken anything away from anyone. On the contrary: The 18-year-old had actually benefited the event. “Luke Littler is of age and can participate – why not? He gave the tournament credibility,” said Edgar.
“If the final had been between Gian van Veen and Beau Greaves, people would have said: ‘This doesn’t matter, they’re only here because Littler is missing.’ Because Littler was there, the game gained importance. “He didn’t take anything away from anyone,” Edgar added. Littler was eliminated in the semifinals against 21-year-old Beau Greaves.
