The 38-year-old Argentine has signed a new contract with the MLS club until 2028.

Emotional video message with Messi

The announcement was made with an emotional 64-second video titled “He’s home” online. It shows Messi flipping through the contract documents before signing and then smiling visibly satisfied.

The camera pulls back, revealing the stadium construction site where Messi has taken a seat in the middle. His club plans to open the new Miami Freedom Park, costing one billion dollars, in 2026—with Messi, as is now clear.

At the end of the clip, the words “Freedom to Dream” appear over the construction site, with the “to” transforming into Messi’s jersey number “10”.

MLS: Messi Honored

Messi’s contract in Miami would have expired in December 2025. Just last Tuesday, Messi was honored by the MLS as the Player of the Month for October.

In the current season, Messi scored 37 goals in 43 competitive matches for Miami across all competitions. He also provided 19 assists.

The regular MLS season is already over. Messi became the top scorer with 29 goals.

Messi and Miami Challenged Against Nashville

From Friday to Saturday night (02:00 German time), Messi and Miami face Nashville SC for the first time in the playoffs.

Messi moved from Paris Saint-Germain to the USA in the summer of 2023, joining the franchise partly owned by David Beckham.

In 2023, he won the Leagues Cup with Miami but missed the playoffs. After winning the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2024, the postseason ended in the first round, but Messi was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
