David Coote must face proceedings from the English FA. The referee made derogatory remarks about Jürgen Klopp.
Due to his derogatory remarks about Jürgen Klopp, English referee David Coote must face proceedings from the English Football Association (FA). The 42-year-old has been suspended since December due to the incident.
The previous month, a video from 2020 surfaced on social media in which Coote, among other things, insulted the then-coach of FC Liverpool and the club in the worst possible way.
Coote referred to Klopp as a “liar” and “damn arrogant,” among other things, but also used far more degrading and vulgar remarks. One referred to Klopp’s nationality.
This constitutes a “serious violation” of the FA rules, the FA has now stated. The Premier League referees’ association (PGMOL) had already removed Coote from circulation after the video surfaced and an investigation was conducted.
Surfaced Video Caused a Stir
The FA does not want to take any further action in connection with the other allegations against Coote. These have been fully investigated, it said.
The referee had also been accused of illegal gambling. A video also shows Foote snorting a white powder; the scenes are said to have been recorded during the 2024 European Championship.
UEFA has banned Coote from the beginning of the year until June 2026. He himself came out as homosexual in an interview in January and said that his struggle to hide his sexuality contributed to poor decisions. He said he was “really sorry” for his actions.
