Emotional Herrmann-Wick: Dahlmeier “with us in our hearts”

Denise Herrmann-Wick has emotionally remembered the fatally deceased Laura Dahlmeier before the first ZDF broadcast of the biathlon winter.

“She left deep marks, as in many other areas of life. Of course, the gap here is particularly wide. But what she achieved and what she left behind will last for eternity. That’s why she is still in our hearts,” said Dahlmeier’s friend and former teammate movingly before the start of the women’s individual at the World Cup in Östersund.

Dahlmeier is missing as an expert for the broadcaster for the first time. “She always motivated, always encouraged the team and us. And that should give us the courage to continue here, true to her motto: ‘Don’t give a damn, then you won’t be missing anything’,” said Sven Fischer.

Dahlmeier was a ZDF expert

Olympic champion Herrmann-Wick (36) will appear in the future as the sole expert on ZDF alongside Fischer (54).

After the end of her career in 2019, Dahlmeier had carried out this job with passion, one year together with Herrmann-Wick, and “brought the biathlon sport to the public in a knowledgeable and authentic way,” as ZDF sports director Yorck Polus emphasized.

Dahlmeier died while mountaineering

On July 28, Dahlmeier died at the age of only 31 while climbing Laila Peak in Pakistan. The news had shocked the entire sports world, and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also expressed his condolences. Several rescue and salvage attempts had failed, and the search for the body has now been abandoned.

“You had the feeling that Germany was standing still. You noticed how many people she touched,” said Herrmann-Wick in retrospect.
